International Year of Plant Health

The United Nations declared 2020 the International Year of Plant Health (IYPH). Individuals and organizations worldwide are rallying to spread a crucial message across the globe: protecting plant health can help end hunger, reduce poverty, protect the environment, and boost economic development.

How can you get involved?

  1. Learn. Take a moment to learn about the importance of plants and the International Year of Plant Health.
  2. Participate. Help us celebrate plants by getting involved with plant protection in your community. Explore the First Detector website—learn about a pest that you are not familiar with, try a new tool or resource, or organize a group to look for a target pest in your neighborhood.
  3. Spread the word. When people understand more, they care more. Help others learn about the importance of plants and plant health by starting a conversation with a friend or colleague; posting a First Detector IYPH poster in your community; or by engaging with us on social media by using the hashtags #IYPH2020, #FirstDetector, and #PlantHealth.
